Beyond the skies of the Plane of Air, a vast spherical liquid shell nurtures the roots of the regrown Plane of Wood. Its nearly limitless saline, fresh and brackish seas teem with oceanic life, lit by submerged suns and by bioluminescence before descending into black benthic depths where the plane borders the Plane of Earth. It suits water-breathing creatures perfectly; air-breathing travelers must bring their own supply or a magical means of breathing, since bubbles of breathable atmosphere are rare and closely guarded.
The oceans are dotted with vast kelp forests, magical currents and stranger phenomena, and host empires of merfolk, predatory and expansionist sea devils, and the holdings of the plane's brine dragons. Unlike other subjective gravity planes, a creature here moves at its swim Speed and must use actions to Swim if it does not have one.
Planar traits
- Subjective Gravity
- All bodies of mass can be centers of gravity with the same force, but only if a non-mindless creature wills it. Unattended items and mindless creatures treat the plane as microgravity. A creature moves normally along a solid surface by imagining down near its feet; designating that direction is a free action with the concentration trait. Suspended in midair, a creature can replicate flight by choosing a down direction and falling in it, moving up to its Speed or fly Speed using the Fly action.
- Water
- Mostly liquid. Visitors who cannot breathe water must bring their own air or a magical means of breathing.
