The First World was a first draft of the Universe, made to test materials and palettes of color before being set aside in favour of a second and final version. It is a realm of extremes, bestial and primal and beautiful, with colors and sensations more intense than the mundane world made after it, and it is populated by fey. Mirroring fey whimsy, its laws of nature change constantly and unpredictably. Distance and time are wildly inconsistent: a traveler might spend an hour or a day there and find that a century, or only a few seconds, passed at home.
The plane stands outside the cycle of souls, an exclusion its fey have their own name for. Its proximity to Creation's Forge nonetheless fills it with strange life and a general absence of true death for native fey, unless they leave, as gnomes once did. Natural gates in wild places of the mortal world connect to it, and fey use them to visit the Universe or to ensnare mortals for their own capricious ends.
Planar traits
- Erratic
- Time slows and speeds up, so a traveler might lose or gain time crossing between planes. Moving from an erratic time plane to a normal one calls for a DC 11 flat check, shared by everyone who leaves together. On a success time passed normally; on a failure one day passed at home for each hour spent here; on a critical failure one day passed at home for each round spent here.
- Metamorphic
- Things change by means other than physical force or magic: sometimes through spells with morphic effects, sometimes under the control of a deity or power, sometimes at random.
