A vast, misty realm overlapping each of the Inner Planes, the Ethereal Plane was formed by the interacting tidal forces of creation and destruction running between Creation's Forge and the Void. It swirls with currents and eddies of fog, lit only by erratic pulses of soft green luminescence and by the dim light of the planes it overlays, which are visible from within but forever intangible.
Mortals most often use it as a means of transit, moving by force of will in the absence of gravity to bypass barriers on their own plane, but it holds dangers and wonders of its own: things lost or abandoned in the mists, and things spun out of local eddies in the ethereal protomatter. Predatory monsters, ether spiders, hags and all manner of incorporeal undead roam it. Travelers can easily become lost with little to guide them, though the plane does host a few permanent structures, including a refuge for wayward souls that offers shelter and friendly guides to the surrounding mists.
Planar traits
- Subjective Gravity
- All bodies of mass can be centers of gravity with the same force, but only if a non-mindless creature wills it. Unattended items and mindless creatures treat the plane as microgravity. A creature moves normally along a solid surface by imagining down near its feet; designating that direction is a free action with the concentration trait. Suspended in midair, a creature can replicate flight by choosing a down direction and falling in it, moving up to its Speed or fly Speed using the Fly action.
