The Boneyard spans an impossibly tall and ever-growing spire of gleaming quintessence rising into the silver void of the Astral Plane. As the destination of the river of souls, it is where the mortal dead arrive to be judged and directed onward to their respective afterlives. The domain is separated into eight courts, one for each of the other Outer Sphere planes, each collecting the souls due to that plane. Not every soul goes unchallenged: proxies of gods and of planes argue and debate over them, with a final arbitration ending the matter.
The courts and the surrounding graveyard are not the only features atop the spire. Beyond them, a further region manifests environments much like those of the varied worlds of the Universe, and holds the souls of neutral shades who have nowhere else to go, unclaimed by any god and having done nothing in life to suggest any particular ethos. Other divinities dwell here in service to the plane's ruler, one below at the spire's root, and one looming overhead as a skull-faced moon whose slowly decaying orbit is said to count down to the last days of the cosmos.
Planar traits
- Timeless
- Time passes but its effects are diminished. Creatures feel no hunger, thirst, aging or natural healing, and poison, disease and some healing may be diminished too. Spell durations still run normally. The danger is that on leaving for a plane with another time trait, everything the trait held back happens retroactively in the instant of transition, which can starve a creature outright or age it to death.
