Terms of Service
Last updated: August 26, 2026
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) cover how you use The DM Screen (the “Service”), which is run by Mycena Studios LLC (“we” or “us”). When you make an account or use the Service, you’re agreeing to these Terms. If you don’t agree with them, don’t use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You need to be at least 13 to use The DM Screen. If you’re under 18, use it with a parent or guardian involved, and only that parent or guardian can buy a subscription or make any other purchase. Whatever information you give us should be accurate and current.
2. Accounts
Your account is yours to look after. Keep your login details safe, and know that you’re responsible for whatever happens under your account. If you think someone got into it without your say-so, tell us. We can suspend or close accounts that break these Terms, or that we have good reason to believe are being used to abuse the Service or the people on it.
3. The Service
The DM Screen is a set of tools for running tabletop role-playing games: character sheets, encounter builders, maps, dice, and the rest of what goes into a session. It’s a small project under active development, so parts of it will change. We may add, change, or retire features over time. If a change would meaningfully cut into something you rely on as a paid subscriber, we’ll give you reasonable notice first.
4. Plans and Billing
Solo prep and real-time multiplayer are free and unlimited on every account. Paid plans, all handled through Stripe, add unlimited campaigns in every game system. Monthly and Yearly are the plans currently on sale; Lifetime is listed because accounts that bought one still hold it:
- Monthly ($5 a month): a subscription billed up front for each month that renews on its own until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from the billing page; cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep access through the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not refund partial periods.
- Yearly ($40 a year): the same access as Monthly, billed once a year and renewing on its own until you cancel. Cancel anytime; the same partial-period rule applies.
- Lifetime ($100): no longer available for purchase. If you bought one, it does not recur and does not expire, and it keeps the access it came with. If you bought within the last 30 days and change your mind, email us at support@mycenastudios.com and we will refund it in full. After those 30 days it is non-refundable, though we can always choose to refund one if the situation warrants it.
When you check out, you’re authorizing Stripe to charge your payment method for the amount and on the schedule shown. We never see or store your full card details. Stripe handles those under its own PCI DSS compliance program.
5. Fair Use
Paid plans include unlimited campaigns, maps, characters, tokens, and storage. “Unlimited” means unlimited for the reason these tools exist: running your own tabletop role-playing games. We reserve the right to review, throttle, or close accounts whose usage is materially out of step with ordinary individual tabletop use. A few examples of what we mean:
- automated or bulk-scripted uploads;
- reselling or redistributing the content you host with us;
- using the Service as general-purpose file storage; or
- hoarding far beyond what any single tabletop group could plausibly run.
If your account ever approaches one of these outlier thresholds, we’ll reach out and work with you first. We’d much rather find something that works than take anything away.
Imported content (Bring Your Own Content)
The DM Screen lets you import your own content: homebrew monsters, characters, items, spells, and adventures, whether typed in by hand, uploaded as a file, or extracted from a document you own. We provide the tools and the storage. The content is yours, and you bring it.
- You warrant that you have the rights. When you import anything, you represent that you own it or otherwise have the legal right to use it for your personal tabletop play. Every import asks you to affirm this with a checkbox (“I own or have the right to use this content”), and we record that affirmation with a timestamp alongside the entry.
- Reading your file stays on your device. When you import a file, the parsing runs entirely in your browser. The file never uploads to us, and we never proxy it, store it, or see it. Only the structured entry you review and choose to save is sent to us, exactly as with any other entry you create.
- We are a tool, not a distributor. We do not host a marketplace, share your imported content with other users, or redistribute, sell, or claim a license to it beyond what section 7 (Your Content) describes for running the Service for you. Your library is private to your account by default.
If you believe content imported or hosted on the Service infringes your copyright, send a takedown notice to support@mycenastudios.com with enough detail to identify the work and the material, and we will act on valid notices promptly. We may remove infringing material and, where appropriate, close repeat-infringer accounts.
6. Acceptable Use
A few things you can’t do:
- Use the Service to break the law or step on someone else’s rights.
- Upload or share content that is illegal, harassing, defamatory, infringing, or sexually explicit material involving minors.
- Get around, switch off, or interfere with any security or rate-limiting we’ve put in place.
- Scrape, mirror, or harvest user content or system data with automated tools, unless a published API or robots.txt directive allows it.
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute the Service or its content without written permission from us.
- Impersonate a person, organization, or fictional entity in order to deceive someone.
7. Your Content
The campaigns, characters, NPCs, maps, and journal entries you make in the Service are yours (“Your Content”). To actually run the Service for you, we need permission to host, store, send, and display that content, so by using The DM Screen you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to do exactly that, and only as far as it takes to provide the Service to you and to the players and DMs you invite into your campaigns. We don’t claim to own Your Content. We don’t use it to train AI models, we don’t put it in marketing, and we don’t sell it to anyone.
You’re on the hook for what’s in Your Content: that it’s legal, that it’s accurate, and that you have the right to share anything from a third party that you upload, whether that’s images, audio, text, or rules references.
8. Intellectual Property
The Service itself, the software, the design, the trademarks, and anything we supply directly (the sample monsters from the System Reference Document, the prebuilt maps, the original artwork) belongs to Mycena Studios LLC or the people we license it from, and it’s covered by copyright and trademark law. Nothing in these Terms hands any of that over to you.
9. Third-Party Services
Running The DM Screen depends on a few outside providers: Supabase for the database and authentication, Vercel for hosting the app, and Stripe for payments. The parts of the Service those companies handle are governed by their own terms and privacy policies, and we can’t answer for what they do or how they run.
10. Disclaimers
The Service comes “as is” and “as available.” As far as the law allows, we disclaim the warranties that would otherwise apply, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We can’t promise the Service will always be up, free of errors, or safe from intrusion, and we can’t promise data will never be lost. We do our best on all of this; we just can’t guarantee it.
11. Limitation of Liability
As far as the law allows, neither Mycena Studios LLC nor anyone working on it will be liable to you for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, that comes out of your use of the Service or your inability to use it. If you do have a claim under these Terms, our total liability for it is capped at whatever you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or $50, whichever is greater.
12. Indemnification
If a claim comes at us because of Your Content, because you broke these Terms, or because you stepped on someone else’s rights, you agree to cover us for it, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, and to defend and hold Mycena Studios LLC harmless.
13. Termination
You can close your account whenever you want from the account settings page. We can suspend or close your account if you break these Terms, or if we have good reason to believe your conduct is putting us or other users at legal or operational risk. When an account ends, we hold onto and delete your data the way our Privacy Policy spells out.
14. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms run under the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute under them gets resolved in the state and federal courts located in King County, Washington, and you agree those courts have personal jurisdiction over you.
15. Changes to These Terms
We’ll revise these Terms now and then. When a change is material, we’ll let registered users know by email or an in-product notice at least 14 days before it takes effect. If you keep using the Service after that date, that counts as accepting the updated Terms.

17. Third-Party Game System Licenses
The DM Screen supports several tabletop systems whose rules content is published by third parties under their own open or creator licenses. That content belongs to its publishers and is used under those licenses; nothing here transfers any of it to you.
